This position is located within the Pharmacy, Clinical Services Branch, Shiprock Service Unit, Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center, Bloomfield, NM. The position serves as the Supervisory Pharmacist, managing and providing clinical pharmacy services for the patients. Responsible for management and administration of personnel policies and procedures, ensuring the overall organizational mission; while providing ongoing analysis to develop programs commensurate with the highest quality of care.
Duties
Provides technical and administrative supervision to all pharmacy staff members within the Pharmacy Department, both outpatient and inpatient.
Assigns work to subordinates; evaluates work performance; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters.
Provides direct pharmaceutical services by selecting, procuring, preparing and dispensing medications.
Assures that staff is in compliance with all JCAHO standard and guidelines as well as the provision of IHS manual, standards of conduct and Privacy Act, and quality assurance in the pharmacy services.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience
Applicant's qualifications background must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the work of the position. Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:
Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects;
Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations;
Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens;
Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications;
Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or
Maintaining all medication records required by law.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must have a minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: directing the delivery of pharmacy services, including advances in clinical practice, efficient and effective drug distribution, and education to improve patient quality of life, minimize therapeutic risk, and enhance clinical outcomes.
Supervisory or Managerial abilities: Candidate must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that may possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below.
Ability to motivate, train and works effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training.
Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time.
Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day operations.
Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
