This position is located within the Environmental Management Services (EMS) of the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Health Care System (VAPHS).
Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis;·
Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors;·
Coordinate work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors;·
Participate with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work;·
Determine training needs of subordinates and arrange for its accomplishment, set performance standards, and make formal appraisals of subordinate work performance;·
Establish standards and criteria for environmental care, sanitation, waste management, recycling, and pest control;·
Develop procedures in order to create and maintain the visual and bacteriological cleanliness of the hospital by treating and cleaning floors, walls, windows, ceilings, carpet, furniture, draperies, intensive care units, restrooms/shower rooms, surgical suites, isolation room, etc.;·
Instruct staff on industry standards, housekeeping techniques, and terminal cleaning techniques to obtain a level of sanitation compliant with infection control guidelines;·
Ensure that waste management is minimized through recycling and green environmental management systems (GEMS);·
Maintain pest control through technical procedures, guidelines set forth in compliance with agency, local, state, and federal regulations;·
Conduct random samplings to determine the quantity and quality of laundered items;·
Manage and maintain an efficient laundry and linen service with sufficient supply of sanitary linens, beneficiaries, wearing apparel, and employee uniforms to meet facility needs;
Maintain department programs such as Safety, Security, Training, Preventive Maintenance, and Infection Control.
Work Schedule: 2:00pm to 10:30pm Monday - Friday or 7:00am - 3:30pm Thursday - Monday

Physical Requirements: As a Supervisor of Housekeeping you may be required, in the absence of housekeeping aids, to lift and move objects up to 60 lbs and may occasionally lift and move objects over 60 lbs. Mop buckets, when full, weigh over 60 lbs and are lifted several times per shift. Biohazard waste bags, linen bags and trash containers frequently exceed 60 lbs.
This position is eligible for a 20% Critical Skills Incentive (CSI).

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
