This Position is located in Arlington, VA.
As a your typical work assignments may include:
Provides advice, assistance, coordination, direction, and assessment regarding forensic data program development, strategic planning, and evaluation.
Collaborates with laboratory quality assurance teams to assist in root cause investigations
and responses to analytical issues or customer complaints from a data perspective.
Represents DEA forensic data strategy positions and interests on DOJ, Federal, state/local, industry, and academic working groups and panels.
Utilizes data storytelling to communicate trends and/or linkages observed in drug seizures, trafficking, composition, geographic correlations, etc., in such a way as to influence laboratory analysis and agency level priorities or objectives.
Develops policies, protocols, procedures, and initiatives to transform silos of scientific data and information into corporate federated data assets.
Compiles large data sets for statistical models, trends, predictions, and analyses to inform these stakeholders of issues impacting illicit drug usage, trafficking, composition, emerging synthetic substances, precursor chemicals, etc.
Operates as a thought leader, understanding the inherent merit, significance and application of scientific data, and identifies new business questions whose solutions and impacts will influence and benefit national drug control policy initiatives.
Coordinates and performs activities related to the integration of scientific data and systems to build and maintain data operations that ingest, transform, and provision laboratory system data across various sources.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 Federal grade level in compiling and managing large data sets of forensic data; developing forensic and chemical data dashboards to display trends that influence business decisions; comprehending and articulating laboratory analysis workflow and work products; and overseeing the generation, collection, implementation, and ongoing support and maintenance of scientific information and/or technologies that supports DEA's mission.
