Job opening: TOOLMAKER LEADER

Salary: $36 - 42 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a TOOLMAKER LEADER in the Production Division (Code 1440) of the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400), located at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan and layout jigs, fixtures, assembly, normally working from blueprints, sketches, and or models of and items to be made. You will manufacture items from detailed layouts and utilizing all precision measuring devices common to the trade, including vernier calipers, height gages, dial indicators, gage blocks, dividers, protractors, and sine bar. You will coordinate work while assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop coordination. You will advise the supervisor regarding any training requirements needed by personnel to further the productivity of the group. You will review and evaluate the work of subordinate employees explaining work requirement, methods, and procedures required on tasks to be performed.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE such as: - Experience applying theories, principals, practices, and techniques of the toolmaker and machinist trades as related to propeller and casting manufacturing. - Experience assisting the immediate supervisor in scoping of work packages with respect to all pertinent documents, references or instructions. - Experience observing that all safety rules and regulations are being followed; ensuring safe work practices and good housekeeping while assuring timely tool, equipment, material, and procedure availability. - Experience informing immediate supervisor or higher level management of the status and progress of the work being performed - Experience communicating with subordinates -Experience advising the supervisor regarding any training requirements needed by personnel to further the productivity of the group performing in-progress and final checks on the employees to ensure that all work and quality requirements are met throughout the process.
