You will serve as a LEGAL ASSISTANT (OA) in the HEADQUARTERS AND SUPPORT BATTALION of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will generate and process all official correspondence and records associated with investigation, legal and administrative punishment proceedings, sentencing documentation and inclusion in the service member's service record book. You will track service record books, unit diary entries and all related matters pertaining to the administrative aspects of personnel pending appellate leave, in an unauthorized absence and the administration of all deserters. You will research specific data for completion of forms contained in service record books. You will join and track all long-term prisoners transferred via Service Record to this command including those in the hands of civilian authority. You will provide accurate, timely advice on regulations, procedures, policies, requirements and other matters necessary to implement the Commanders' intent.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Generating and processing all official correspondence and records associated with investigations, legal and administrative punishment proceedings, sentencing documentation and inclusion in the service member's record book.
