This position provides regional human resource support work, stationed in and focused on the assigned facility in the VISN Shared Service Unit (SSU). This includes completing actions needed to onboard positions and ensure related staffing functions are completed in a timely fashion. This streamlined and focused approach moves VHA forward in its continuum of providing comprehensive, compassionate, and coordinated care to Veterans.
The selectee will be on-station at their assigned facility.
Duties
Assists HR Specialist / Recruiter with pre-employment processing of new employees to include arranging for physical examinations, ensuring completion of all appropriate forms, coordinating entry-on-duty, and coordinates with other related functional offices involved in processing new hires (i.e. pre-appointment security checks).
Reviews completed documents for missing or conflicting applicant information.
Assists HR Specialist / Recruiter with identifying proper documentation to ensure the electronic personnel file is current and up to date during the recruitment and onboarding process.
Assists specialists by maintaining automated databases in order to track information and extract data used to generate documents, records, and reports.
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, may be flexible after 90 days of successful employment

Telework: Up to two days per week may be available for highly qualified candidates after 90 days of successful employment

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify at the GS-5 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal Service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of this specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: answering telephone inquiries relating to administrative concerns from co-workers; use of office automation software in performing administrative work such as responding to customer inquiries; drafting and reviewing correspondence that does not require advanced research, and data entry.
OR
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours. NOTE: If using education to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required.
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 4 academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. When education is used to meet specialized experience requirements at grade GS-5, the level of the course work must have been equivalent to at least the junior- and senior-year levels of a baccalaureate program.
NOTE: If using education combined with specialized experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required.
To qualify at the GS-6 level, you must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal Service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of this specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: answering telephone inquiries relating to administrative concerns from internal and external employees and stakeholders; researching, applying, and advising on policies, use of office automation software combined with data lookups or other research in performing work such as responding to customer inquiries, drafting and reviewing correspondence, and data entry.
There is no Educational substitution at the GS-6 level.
To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in Federal Service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of this specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: answering telephone inquiries relating to human resources from internal and external employees and applicants; researching, applying, and advising on policies relating to human resources, use of office automation software in performing human resources work such as responding to customer inquiries, drafting and reviewing correspondence, and data entry.
There is no Educational substitution at the GS-7 level.
Physical Requirements: No special physical exertion is required. The work is primarily performed while sitting through some work may require periods of standing. The regular and recurring work of the position involves sitting at a desk, conferences, meetings, etc., and occasional visits to activity work sites. Occasional use of automobile and public conveyances may be required.
