The incumbent position is located with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center (VAMC) within the Facility Management Service (FMS). The purpose of the Pipefitter Supervisor is to supervise current pipefitters within FMS. This includes work requested and performed within the Cheyenne VAMC facility.
Duties
Responsible for independently diagnosing, planning, and completing projects or work orders involving major systems in the entirety. Show proficiency with the work order system and report on metrics such as preventive maintenance completion, corrective maintenance turnaround time, and adherence to documentation of services standards.
Responsible for coordinating, managing, and evaluating work required for new construction to produce timely, profitable results, and to satisfy the customer. The individual must be self- disciplined, resourceful, and willing to accept responsibility for the project and the crew assigned to them.
Ability to use and apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories, and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving.
Assign work to individuals and provide technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes; Observe work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassign personnel within group supervised, and coordinate work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules.
Responsible for the daily direction and instruction of subordinates in specific tasks and assures those logical and feasible guidelines are established to provide the economical use of resources.
Preparation of documents required to procure proper materials, services, equipment, and tools to accommodate a fully operational section. Determines when vendor or manufacturer services are needed on a one-time basis to assist in the repair of complex systems.
Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as hydraulic, nitrogen, oxygen, steam-heating, and steam-generating systems.
Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems.
Repairs/rests/Maintains plumbing systems. Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. repairs/maintains equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, waste macerators, fire sprinkler systems, lawn sprinkler systems, emergency eyewash, and showers.
Knowledge of how various high-pressure piping systems and equipment, such as steam heating, steam generation, and circulating pumps, are installed and operate.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. He/she often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to fumes, loud noises, saw dust and other environmental hazards.
Incumbent is exposed to a full array of weather conditions. Incumbent is subject to danger of falling when working from ladders or hydraulic lifts. Exposed to dust/dirt while mixing mortar and handling materials. Work is performed in all areas of the hospital environment, inside and outside. Work is often dirty, dusty and greasy. The incumbent is subjected to such hazardous conditions as injury from power driven tools, falling from scaffolds and ladders, temperature extremes, noise, and bad weather conditions. He/she is frequently exposed to the possibilities of cuts, bruises, scratches, broken bones, and burns. Incumbent is subject to asbestos exposure and chemicals which can cause burns or irritation to the skin. Some duties may require incumbent to wear protective equipment and clothing that is heavy and uncomfortable.
