The Industrial Equipment Mechanic, WG-5352-10, is assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) within the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS). This position requires an Industrial Equipment Mechanic able to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair complex/electronic digital industrial laundry equipment (washers, dryers, folders, ironers, stackers, spreader feeder, horizontal and vertical pneumatic conveyors, cart dump, weight scales, and pneumatic mono rail system)

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to : Performs all types of maintenance (repairs, installation, preventive maintenance) on laundry equipment, including 800-pound washers, 400-pound washers, 100-pound washers, 80-pound washers, 170-pound dryer, 440-pound gas dryer, 450-pound steam dryer, spreader feeders, roller irons, cross folders, stackers, small piece folders, blanket folder with stacker, monorail system throughout laundry, conveyors, and dump hoppers. Maintain current manufacturer's repair/parts manuals on equipment assigned to Environmental Management Service. Perform maintenance and repairs on industrial housekeeping equipment (burnishers, scrubbers, vacuums, riding Sam Bonie). Repairs may include electronic computer boards, electric motors, bearings, belts, pulleys, wheels, shafts, battery charging systems, battery replacement, and hand controls. Maintain and repair pallet jacks (hydraulic and electronic). Repairs may include changing batteries, repairs to 24/36 volt charging systems, hydraulic pumps, relay boards, wheels, etc. Maintains Maintenance Shop's inventory of parts. Contacts vendors for parts and materials needed for repairing equipment. Provides necessary information (vendor, parts no., price, quantity, and shipping charges) to Section supervisor for ordering. Provides preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment at off-site facilities (scheduled or unscheduled). Maintains current/valid license to operate government vehicles and fork lift. Physical Requirements: This position requires lifting/carrying, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending/stooping, twisting, pulling/pushing, fine manipulation, reaching above shoulders, driving a vehicle, operating machinery, temperature extremes, high humidity, chemical solvents, fumes/dust, and noise. Frequently lifts, carries, and set up tools, equipment, and parts that weight up to 50 pounds, may lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds. Ladders, scaffolding, and platforms will be utilized to access hard to reach areas for repairs and installations. High lift equipment (scissor and/or boom lift) will be used as needed for task. Working Conditions: Exposed to noise, heat, dirt, dust, grease, and chemicals, and required to wear protective clothing, such as gloves, safety goggles and shoes. Subject to high temperatures, gases, fumes, scalding water, as well as dirty, hot damp unsanitary conditions. The incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. He/She is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. When work is done outside, subject to discomfort from periods in the hot sun, and sometimes to chilly and rainy weather The work is performed in all areas of the Medical Center environment, including general medical and surgical and psychiatry units.
