About the Position: Works under the general supervision of the ASAP Prevention Branch Manager or Program Manager (PC/RRP/SPPM)who outlines broad program goals and objectives of the installation's Armed Forces Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) prevention and education, risk reduction, and suicide prevention services.
Duties
Develop and administer an installation-wide Army Substance Abuse Program Specialist prevention and education program.
Serves as a manager of the installation Risk Reduction Program.
Serves as a manager of the installation Suicide Prevention Program.
Develop or participate in the development of local policies, procedures and directives.

Basic Requirement for Army Substance Abuse Program Specialist (PC/RRP/SPPM):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work, Public Health and Community Health. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Experience in 1) Developing and/or implementing high-risk prevention strategies for substance abuse and suicide prevention for a target population; 2) Develop substance abuse prevention programs involving youth, parents, and other concerned adults; 3) Assist in a suicide prevention program which involves education/awareness for all ages, adults, and children; and 4) Create training and/or lesson plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work, Public Health and Community Health.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
