This position is located in the Police Services Operations Dispatch Center, at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center (VAMC), with responsibility for all clinics and facilities in the Veterans Health Indiana area.
Duties
Receives and compiles information from various sources related for police and emergency incidents
Takes appropriate action regarding fire, intrusion, duress and hold-up alarms
Direct patrol responses and notification of personnel depending on the type of incident or request
Monitor and operate Security Surveillance TV, Indiana Data & Communications System, National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, National Crime Information Center and 911 telephone systems
Knowledge in IDS, fire and environmental alarm systems, five emergency radio consoles and card lock/access control
Familiarity regarding time lapse digital video recorders and related peripherals
Compiles and prepares a chronological history of complaints and reports
Utilizes the Daily Operations Journal (DOJ) and alarm reports to events occurring in the operation of the police control center for dissemination of the completed product to various supervisors
Completes all filling of reports and other service-related paperwork from their assigned shift
Coordinates with city, state, and federal law enforcement officials during emergency and routine situations
Monitors the operation of all communication and security related electronic equipment daily
Monitors security surveillance cameras and detects criminal activity in progress
Observes suspects and known offenders, takes supporting law enforcement action and continuously monitors that person until they are intercepted and detained
Conducts hourly radio station identification checks as required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and radio checks every thirty minutes with uniformed police officers and information officers
Maintains accurate radio/alarm activity records/logs to include dates, times and results of communication and activity
Receives and transmits messages in IDACS
Maintains security of information in accordance with Privacy Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Work Schedule: Sunday - Saturday 12 hour rotating shifts.Additional information may be provided during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05.
