This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

The Registered Nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. major functions include but not limited to: The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning holistic comprehensive person care focusing on an interdisciplinary approach to ensure the resident attains or maintains the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well- being. The Registered Nurse maintains expertise in skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, restorative care, long term care and hospice and palliative care. The Registered Nurse possess knowledge of the Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services Federal Regulations for Long-Term Care and the use of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Minimum Date Set (MDS). The Registered Nurse is responsible for performing assessments, developing consistent assignment, facilitating Watch List Huddles, participating in quality assurance performance improvement, resident and family education, admissions, discharges, transfers, record audit, nursing procedures and medication administration. The primary practice setting is in the CLC. The CLC is a component of the spectrum of long-term care that provides a skilled nursing environment and houses a variety of specialty programs for persons needing short and long stay services which include skilled nursing, rehabilitation, continuing care, restorative care, and hospice and palliative care. The average age of the residents admitted is 72 y/o nonetheless special attention is paid to age and generation specific needs since a younger generation is benefiting from CLC services. The Registered Nurse's primary commitment is to the resident, whether an individual, family, group, or community. The RN, as a licensed professional, will be responsible and accountable for his/her practice. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: Position can be physically demanding and require a variety of functional abilities. Requires gross motor skills including moving within confined spaces, maintain balance in multiple positions, reach above shoulders/overhead, reach below the waist, and reach in front. Requires fine motor skills including to pick up objects with hands, grasp small objects with hands, write with pen, use computer, pinch/pick or otherwise work with fingers, twist at waist, twist wrists/hands, and squeeze with fingers. Requires physical endurance, strength and mobility including to walk long distances, standing, sustain repetitive movement, maintain physical tolerance. In addition, push and pull, support weight, lifting, twisting, bending, stoop/squat, move quickly, climb stairs, walk, stand, carry equipment/supplies, use upper body strength, squeeze with hands. Must be able to hear normal speaking level sounds, hear faint voices, hear faint body sounds, hear in situations when not able to see mouth, and hear alarms. Also be able to see information up to 24 inches away (monitors, computer screens, skin conditions), see objects up to 20 feet away, use depth perception, use of peripheral vision, and distinguish color and color intensity. Need to be able to feel vibrations, detect temperature, feel differences in characteristics of skin, feel difference in sizes, shapes, detect environmental temperatures, detect odors, tolerate strong soaps, tolerate strong odors, and tolerate disturbing sounds. Must be able to read and understand written documents and digital displays. Requires knowledge of math and ability to comprehend and interpret graphic trends and measurement tools. Requires emotional stability to adapt to changing environments/stress, deal with the unexpected, focus attention on task, cope with own emotions, multitask and cope with strong emotions in others. Requires analytical thinking including transferring knowledge from one situation to another, process and interpret information from multiple sources, analyze and interpret abstract and concrete data, evaluate outcomes, problem-solve, prioritize tasks, use of long/short-term memory, synthesize knowledge and skills, sequence information, independent decision making and adapt decisions based on new information. Requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials requiring incumbent to use personnel protective equipment, practice continuous hand hygiene and be knowledgeable of infection prevention policies and procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to residents who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations.
