The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a student trainee in the Human Resources Management Office. The incumbent will acquire Human Resource knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to assume progressively more complex responsibilities.
This is NOT a remote position. The incumbent will be required to report to the Office.
Duties
The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion.
Duties will include:
Obtains missing data from HR files or the appropriate office.
Identifies appropriate information required to process personnel actions.
Uses specific and detailed guidelines from trainer/supervisor or operating manuals (such as the Guide to Processing Personnel Actions and The Paid Coding Manual), to follow clear cut steps to identify appropriate employee data coding and processing procedures; input, edit, and update HR information in the automated HR programs, and determine nature of actions needed to update employee data.
Reviews and verifying employee data, such as EIN's.
Determines Service Computation dates.
Scans documents into employees e-OPF
Checks accuracy of organizational and position data
Maintains Classification position description library (electronic and hard copy) - includes scanning PD's into database
Maintains Classification work files
Prepares classification reports using automated systems and Microsoft programs such Access and Excel
Checks personnel action request for supporting documentation
Keeps staffing logs up to date
Provides program information
Completes 3918's and 75 data
Answers inquires pertaining to job vacancies
Prepares forms for new employees
Contacts applicant to obtain information
Review finished forms for completeness and accuracy
Prepares HR documents
Extracts, revises, and sorts information from automated files, records, and databases
Audits and returns certificates and completes commitment letters
Provides announcement information to applicants and employees
Work Schedule: This is a Part-Time Position (20 hours) with work being performed in Daytime hours.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/27/2023
Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job (Human Resources). Proof of enrollment or acceptance documentation from an accredited educational institution for Spring 2024 is required.
Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. At the graduate level, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours meets the degree requirements.

Education: To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
