Duties

Lead employees in accomplishing trades and labor work assignments associated in pipe-fitting field. Demonstrate proper pipe-fitting methods, procedures or techniques to be used. Review work assignments of others for compliance in accordance with established or new procedures. Apply specialized measuring tools to determine dimensions for operational systems. Operate tools and devices on piping systems to maintain preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot fire systems and other piping of buildings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel (5%) to attend workshops, training, or seminars.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Government operator's license.
  • Must be able to physically lift up to 50 lb. during normal operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator's license.
  • Position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
  • Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).

Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead or Supervise. Have ability to perform common Pipefitter (Fire Protection Systems) Leader tasks to include: inspecting employees pipefitting services to verify system requirements; interpreting directions related to methods, procedures or techniques from management; assisting employees in accomplishing pipefitting workers assignments in a timely manner. I can assign the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group lead. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Lead or SuperviseAbility to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Measurement and LayoutTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Troubleshooting Physical Efforts: Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Occasionally, required to wear heavy and uncomfortable protective clothing.
