About the Position: This position is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Duties
Provide technical authority on payroll issues to USA MEDDAC-AK civilian employees for questions relating to timecard coding, Automated Time Attendance and Production System (ATAAPS), pay issues and Defense Civilian Payroll System processes.
Serve as an intermediary between the customers and the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) payroll processing center.
Provide payroll liaison service with appropriate budget offices and the local Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC).
Provide technical assistance to command and timekeepers regarding operations of the automated ATAAPS and the online Defense Civilian Payroll System (DCPS).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Must be able to complete the Financial Management Level 1 (FM 1-0) Certification within 6 months of employment.
- Must be a qualified typist. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing an automated pay system to enter or retrieve or verify data or reviewing time and attendance reports or data to confirm correct codes are entered for employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as, Business Management, Human Resources and Public Administration.. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
