Duties
Writes, edits and reviews news releases, fact sheets, talking points, presentations, and other materials.
Responds to information requests from the news media, special interest groups, elected officials and tribes, other regional staff and the general public.
Develops and implements communication and public involvement plans both internally and externally to improve understanding of organizational programs.
Serves as an expert for others on effective communication techniques.
Develops, produces, and/or delivers audio visual products as well as oral and written presentations.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
To qualify at the GS-12, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in federal service having demonstrated experience. ????Specialized experience at this level is defined as: communications planning and implementation for a public affairs program that may deal with controversial issues of significant public interest; experience developing communication plans designed to educate the public about an organization's initiatives, programs, and operations; establishing and maintaining effective and professional working relationships with print and broadcast media representatives; drafting, reviewing, and editing press releases, press statements, remarks, and speeches; producing audio visual products; developing and transmitting public information to the press; experience serving as a spokesperson for an organization.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
