Duties
Major Duties GS-3
Respond verbally to repetitive visitors' inquiries for information, direction and guidance. Provide direction, information, and orientation regarding services or activities of interest to the public. Serve as a front-line representative, greeting customers and answering questions. Explain the significance of an area's facility's natural, cultural, historic, or other resources. Assist the public in planning visits to and recommending activities in the area. Operate a cash register and assists in making and retail sales of various interpretive products for natural, historical, or cultural programs, publications or exhibits. Give scripted 60 second orientation safety talk. Assist with giving historic weapon demonstrations. Help work special events.
Major Duties GS-4
In addition to the above duties, the GS-04 will educate visitors regarding rules, regulations, and safety concerns to gain compliance. Direct customers with problems, questions, or complaints.
Physical Demands: The work requires standing for long periods of time on granite or hard surfaces up to 8 hours/day, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, including walking up and down 50+ stairs multiple times a day, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items, Mental Stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretative programs.

Working Conditions:Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions (high heat and humidity, high winds, rain, sleet, storms, etc.).

Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) is a 25-acre site located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. The only commercial access to South Bass Island is by ferry or plane from April to November. Annually, approximately 150,000 visitors have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top of the 352-foot Monument. On the park grounds there is visitor center, ranger station, administrative office, maintenance facility, and nine park housing units. Services in Put-In-Bay include a bank, churches, EMS services, grocery store, gas station, K-12 school, library, police, restaurants, and shops. Other services are located on the mainland in Port Clinton and nearby Sandusky. Park housing may be available.
Additional Information: If you choose to live on the mainland your commute and employment time may exceed 11 hours/day plus driving time to your residence. Ferry Passes on the Miller Boat Line will be approximate $480/year.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/27/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-03 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least 6 months of general experience. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of the position or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Your resume must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year (30 semester hours or equivalent) of study above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in subjects such as American history, science, and/or public speaking or other subjects related to the work of this position.You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating degree earned and credit hours to qualify based on education. Successful completion of a combination of general experience and education as described above, which when combined as percentages of the general experience and education requirements, respectively, would total 100 percent. Such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position as described above. A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected. Your resume must include hours per week worked.
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: Six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 level is considered minimally qualifying. General Experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience is experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to Park Guide or tour leader; naturalist; environmental educator or teacher; or other similar work. (Excess specialized experience can be substituted for general experience; but excess general experience cannot be substituted for required specialized experience.) EDUCATION: Successful completion of two years of education above high school (60 semester hour or 90 quarter hours) which included at least 12 semester hours of directly related courses, such as in American history, science, public speaking, parks & recreation, education, or communications. A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester.
