Incumbent serves as the Point of Sale (POS) Pharmacy Technician Supervisor in the Pharmacy Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. The Primary purpose of this position is to manage a pharmacy team assigned to abstracting and interpreting data from Pharmacy records in preparation and submission of Pharmacy Point of Sale billing claims and processing claims. Pharmacy tech also receives medication orders and dispenses medications. Position is located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Duties
Supervisory Duties: Incumbent dedicates 50% in performing supervisory functions such as:
Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates,
Set and adjust long and short-term priorities,
Prepare schedules
Serves as the subject matter expert, developing and implementing new billing technologies to increase collections.
Other Duties:
Reviews, interprets, and accurately fills individual prescriptions, performs the basic technical processes entailed in dispensing prescriptions. Has a working knowledge of RPMS Pharmacy Package and hospital systems.
Provides independent patient medication counseling, includes verification of patient identification and verification of patient medication uses.
Researches and follows-up on rejected claims online in order to ensure maximum reimbursement to the facility. Documents all information in the medical chart and RPMS.
Analyzes, maintains, and directs the total billing operation of the pharmacy point of sale programs and serves as an advocate for the Indian Health Service.
Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience
For positions at GS-4 and above: Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of:
Pharmaceutical nomenclature;
Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals;
Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the
Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-08
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge of hospital billing process, automated billing system, drug and medicine brand names, generic/chemical names, coordinating and overseeing the work of other staff, and assisting in planning and directing.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
