You will serve as a SUPERVISORY OPERATIONS NUCLEAR PROJECT ZONE MANAGER in the Nuclear Production Manager (Code 300N), Deputy Nuclear Production Manager (300N1), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD; however, the permanent duty station of the position is Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD), Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia.

Duties

You will ensure all nuclear work and testing, including ship's force work package, is identified and included and scheduled. You will monitor, analyze, and take necessary actions to correct problem areas within radiation exposure control program within assigned zone. You will closely monitor work progress of subordinate employees. You will coordinate with shops, ship's force and various shipyard departments for scheduling and completion of work to support project key events.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying principles, concepts and practices concerning shipyard work operations, control system requirements, trade and ship practices. Experience with knowledge of nuclear production trade and technical methods, procedures, material and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of complex Navy vessels. Experience determining and providing resolution of operational and maintenance problems within the shipyard and ship's personnel. Experience analyzing and ensuring that program improvements are put into affect for the continuing improvement. Experience providing administrative knowledge of production trade and technical methods, procedures, material and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of complex Navy vessels with a specialized practical knowledge of mechanical practices and operations.
