This position is located at VA Medical Center Iron Mountain, Michigan, Engineering Service, Maintenance & Repair Section. This position does corrective and preventive maintenance of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation systems and associated equipment. The refrigeration equipment consists of walk-in coolers, freezers and similar equipment. Daily checks are made for maintenance and minor repairs associated with the equipment.
Duties
This position is located al VA Medical Center Iron Mountain, Michigan, Engineering Service, Maintenance & Repair Section.
Major Duties:
Installing, troubleshooting, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on air conditioning and Heating and ventilation equipment and systems.
Monitor, control, and troubleshoot Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to install, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment and systems.
Troubleshoot electrical and various electronic equipment.
Work with Medical Gases, compressed air and vacuum systems, along with compressed air and gas delivery systems and equipment.
Maintenance and repair of the pneumatic tube system
Work with heat exchangers, reheat and cooling piping, pumps, and delivery systems.
Work with Steam delivery components and systems
Installing, troubleshooting, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on refrigeration units, walk in coolers and freezers, ice machines and similar.
Use HVAC specific meters, gauges, and analyzer tools and equipment to properly install and perform maintenance on HVAC equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Must provide EPA CLASS I and II Refrigerant Recovery or EPA Universal Certificate

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds.
Work is performed both inside and outside. Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty and greasy; on scaffolding and in close quarters. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns and rotary device, such as electrical motors. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Will be required to wear ear protection, face masks, goggles, rubber boots, safety shoes and any protective gear as necessary to perform duties of this position.
