About the Position: This position is an Food Service Worker located with Defense Health Agency, Naval Med Center, Dir of Administration Nutrition Management, San Diego, CA
Duties
Use computer generated reports from Diet Office staff, retrieves computed Meal Tally's at specified times for use in food preparation showing required totals for each entrée, vegetable, salad, dessert and beverage.
Retrieve final count just prior to meal service.
Replenish stock during and after meal service.
Understand basic and complex diets and knows what foods are authorized on the most common diets in order to spot obvious errors in the patient’s selection.
Deliver individual and bulk snacks to wards at specific times.
Inform patient at earliest meal (usually breakfast but may be lunch if patient is NPO at previous meal or newly admitted) how to fill out menu selections.
Order stock from storeroom for tray-line service
Put away ordered stock items to include semi-perishable and perishable items
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex food service duties such as following recipes in combining ingredients for the more complex salads and other uncooked spreads and dressings. I am skilled at placing proper food items on patient trays. I assist in assembling clean trays, bowls, glasses, silverware, and paper or plastic items in the proper place for meal service adhere to food sanitation practices in order to protect food from deterioration and waste. I work quickly, neatly and quietly in assembling foods and beverages on the central tray service. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Incumbent performs work requiring light to moderate physical effort. Subject to continuous standing and walking and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. The incumbent frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted (e.g., pushing small carts of dirty dishes) and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing more than 20 pounds with the assistance of other workers. Pounds Pull Weight is 75 lbs.
Working Conditions: The work is performed indoors in well-lighted, moderately ventilated kitchen spaces. Through well-lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Constant moving of equipment (carts). Food Service Workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration units. The incumbent must be able to work closely with others.
