About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures for multiple surgical specialties. Participate with the surgical team members in planning and implementing surgical procedures ranging from routine to complex high risk under the general supervision of the surgical team. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Function as a primary surgical technician providing support of a highly specialized nature to patients undergoing surgery, including the newest and most complex, state-of-the art procedures in multiple surgical specialties. Conduct ancillary duties in support of the surgical schedule. Conduct medical supply operation assignments to decontaminate, sterilize, and prepare medical supplies/equipment used in the operating room. Serve as a circulator/float technician. Provide patient care in the Operating Room, both pre and post operation.

• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to vaccinations.
• Will be required to work rotating shift work as required to cover mission requirements.
• Employee may be required to support extended mission requirements such as on call duty or emergency overtime
• Work involves exposure to infection and contagious diseases.
• This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
• This position has been identified as having “regular contact with children” IAW Public Law 101-647, Sect 231, and Public Law 102-190, Sect 1094, an FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository check will be completed on selectee.
• Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes professional surgical technician work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, or other medical or patient care facility, performing duties such as: providing pre- and post-operative care, support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; and assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, such as passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
