This position will serve as the staff podiatrist for the Zuni-Ramah Service Unit, providing comprehensive podiatric health care to individuals and their families by performing diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic podiatric services, including surgery. The population served is primarily Native American patients and non-Indian patients, as available.
Duties
Delivers comprehensive podiatric health care, educational and teaching efforts to individuals and their families.
Provides assessment of the feet of persons with diabetes to identify risks, foot wear needs, and education needs.
Provides or performs a variety of screening, developmental and laboratory testing (including neurologic, vascular, vibration, etc.) on feet and interprets the results.
Provides diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, and surgical podiatric services to patients.
Assists in the development, maintenance and management of the foot care program to include budget development, assessment requisition and inventory of supplies, equipment, shoes and educational materials.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
You must have professional knowledge of podiatry surgery as evidenced by board certification in podiatric/foot surgery.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Education
You must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
You must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Residency
You must have completed a Podiatry (Medicine and Surgery) Residency.
Experience
In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must meet the Additional Requirement below.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE GS-14 GRADE LEVEL: You must have one or more full years of professional podiatry experience in an office, clinic, or hospital, equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
1) Performing surgical repair of bone fractures, soft tissue injuries, congenital and structural deformities, and infections involving the lower extremities (foot, ankle, leg).
2) Reviewing medical and podiatric history, performing or requesting diagnostic tests and examinations as necessary to obtain information relevant to each case.
3) Diagnosing and prescribing or providing treatment of pathologic conditions of the feet, ankles, or lower extremities, including diabetic, neuropathic, or vascular conditions.
4) Educating patients and family members on illness, management and treatment of foot or lower leg disorders.
5) Developing or implementing quality review processes to evaluate and manage a foot care and treatment program.
Your experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance for this Podiatrist, GS-14 position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
