You will serve as an Aircraft Mechanic in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This Announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform, at the journey level, disassembly, maintenance and repair, and assemble fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components, and assemblies. You will perform a variety of complex and advanced metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components. You will perform a variety of repair, fabrication, modification, removal, and installation of composite and/or plastic items, parts, assemblies, and structures. You will correct problems by removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Utilizing knowledge of metals, metal properties, and metal characteristics; 2) Assisting other aircraft workers in repairs; 3) Repairing and disassembling/assembling aircrafts and aircraft components. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
