This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Competitive Service DoD Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the ILSC, Field Support Operations Fleet Management Expansion in Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia

Duties

Assisting in servicing, troubleshooting, overhauling, and rebuilding or making comparable major repairs to powered support systems. Assist on repairs on Combat support equipment, General Utilities and Power Generation Equipment. Assist in making comparable major repairs to powered support systems. Uses Automated Supply/Maintenance Management Systems such as Global Combat support Systems Army (GCCS-A). Read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to complete repairs Use less complex equipment such as common mechanic's hand tools, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, drills and hones to complete repairs.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Powered Support System Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision which includes the ability to: (1) Assist in completely disassembling, reassembling, overhauling, and adjusting parts and components to specifications; (2) Maintain support equipment such as large combustion powered generators and compressors, mobile shops, power tools or similar special purpose units used in engineering project; and (3) Ability to use common mechanic hand tools such as hand tools, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, drills and hones. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above. - - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Performs work which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. Sometimes works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Working Conditions: Works inside or outside. Is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature and loud noise. Outside work may be in bad weather. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes and hard damp floors or surfaces. Works on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock. Exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from above conditions may be required to wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing which may be uncomfortable.
