This position is located within the Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. The position is responsible for ensuring that adequate supplies of Prosthetic and Orthotic items are stocked to provide for patient services; that adequate stock is maintained for the Orthotic Lab for fabrication; and that necessary wheelchair parts are available for minor repairs for wheelchairs.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs property accountability duties or the more routine phases of supply management including inventory of nonexpendable medical supplies and devices, reporting excess supplies, etc.;
Manages and controls all inventory transactions for assigned areas;
Monitors stock levels and revises replenishment frequencies;
Processes supply transactions such as receipt, shipment, and/or adjustment documents;
Executes proper inventory adjustments, processes stock returns for credit, and makes cataloging decisions for inventory items;
Reviews and analyzes stock data in order to assure the most economical levels are maintained;
Oversees stock room and inventory by utilizing prescribed PSAS databases;
Utilizes barcode equipment in order to generate and print out barcode labels for each item and affix labels appropriately;
Holds a government purchase cards and complies with acquisition regulations;
Performs inventory management related duties including elements of item management, material coordination, and inventory control;
Utilizes Prosthetic Inventory Program (PIP) database;
Prepares item descriptions for new items entering supply channels or performs work involved in the publication of stock lists;
Conducts market research on product pricing and performance;
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supply Technician position. Specialized experience includes: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Regularly pushes loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With the assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment, will move heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. A portion of time is also spent operating ADP Equipment such as bar code scanners, computers and printers. Works throughout the medical center which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. Duties will subject the incumbent to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury. Will stock supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouse, and nursing areas. Will be expected to maintain a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infections pollutants while transitioning between environments.
