The health technician performs both clinical and administrative duties in support of the mission for the Department of Veteran Affairs, North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, Diagnostic Imaging Service. The Diagnostic Imaging at NF/SGVHS includes the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine departments at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center and the Lake City VA Medical Center, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and The Villages Outpatient clinics.

Duties

Major Duties: The incumbent functions as a Health Technician in the Diagnostic Imaging Service supporting patient care in the various imaging modalities. Incumbent assignments support the general diagnostic radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Interventional Radiology sections. The health technician is responsible for a wide variety of duties that requires the ability to interact with patients, physicians, nurses, radiologic technologists, radiology residents and radiologists, as well as other ancillary hospital personnel, services and equipment vendors. Incumbent functions effectively as a vital member of the Diagnostic Imaging team when cooperative efforts are needed to complete patient procedures and provide a high level of patient satisfaction and safety for patients and team members. Incumbent is familiar with basic computer programs and functions for reviewing/manipulating/entering patient and procedure information into the EHR and computer systems (e.g., CERNER, CPRS/VISTA and PACS). Incumbent ensure there is a correct and appropriate order before a patient is scheduled for an imaging exam in the patients electronic health record (EHR). . Ensure the provider's order is correct and that it has been protocoled by a radiologist, if appropriate (typically CT, MRI, NM exams). Place appropriate notes in the EHR, such as the content and time of communications with the patient. Escort patients to changing rooms and begin the interviewing process if necessary (MRI and CT patients). Ensures patients are screened and cleared, notifying the appropriate staff (Technologist or Nurse) when patient is ready. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/20/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Cleans and prepares the imaging equipment and room for the next exam/procedure; Schedules patients for exams and/or procedures; Prepares the patient for his/her upcoming exam/procedure; Sets up the imaging room to coincide with the examination being performed to include the use of proper sterile procedure when needed. Monitor inventory of supply stock and restocks supplies, assuring that there are adequate standard and specialized supplies for upcoming procedures/exams; Assists with coordination of preventive maintenance and/or repair to ensure operability of the equipment; Support patient care in the various imaging modalities such as general diagnostic radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Interventional Radiology. Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Applies Technology to TasksCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work requires the Health Care Technician to spend most of the tour (up to 10 hours per day) on his/her feet with intermittent walking, bending, pushing, pulling and intermittently lifting up to 45 pounds. The use of a mechanical device is required for all heavy lifting (e.g. patient lifting). Work requires intermittent positioning and transferring patients in the delivery of patient care, utilizing proper body mechanics at all times. Work requires the ability to use a keyboard to access, input and retrieve information using a computer with keyboard. Work requires finger and hand dexterity adequate to handle and manipulate equipment, stocking of supplies, submitting reports and filing forms. The employee works with different types of personalities and is closely involved with disabled, acute, chronic, and seriously ill patients. He/she must possess stable personality and good mental health and demonstrate cheerfulness, compassion, courtesy, and concern. Education

Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
