Salary: $24 - 28 per hour

About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Operate hoist systems from control panel stations according to guidelines. Perform preventive maintenance to blasting equipment according to Army procedures. Adjust machine settings for blasting different types of tank hulls according to Army regulations. Remove gaskets containing asbestos from tank hulls according to guidelines. Properly label hazardous waste materials according to Army regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete an annual physical.
  • Incumbent of position must satisfactorily complete training on "Hazardous Waste Control and Management Programs" within one year after selection.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I can operate six-wheelabrator monorail hoists and pressure blast machines to clean rust, scale, and paint from tank hulls and dump truck beds; operate abrasive guns to touch up and finish blast products as necessary to assure compliance with established procedures; use a grit vacuum system to remove all shot and foreign matter from tank hulls and truck beds; AND position tank hulls and truck beds into blast chamber. I can perform a variety of duties involved in hazardous waste management. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Operation of Job Family Specify Equipment, Machinery, etc.Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Normally light to moderate physical effort is required in lifting, carrying, and positioning items which weigh from 10 to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. Wears and utilizes required safety devices and equipment. This position requires climbing a ladder to heights of approximately 60 to 80 feet multiple times per day to ensure that equipment screens are clean and free of excessive debris. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside. Exposed to dust, dirt, and frequent high noise levels. Wears and utilizes required safety and protective equipment and devices. Extreme caution must be exercised when operating machine due to overhead weight of tank hulls and truck beds. Traveling on the monorail carriers.
