About the Position: This position is located at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Duties

Provide recurring consultation and advice to individual psychologists, program managers, department heads and supervisors. Orient all new psychology staff in the Department of Mental Health. Observe and evaluate the professional services provided by psychologists in the Department of Mental Health. Direct the planning and implementation of continuous improvement activities to identify opportunities to improve the quality of patient mental health care. Conduct outpatient evaluations, record case formulations, establish diagnosis, and plan clinical interventions and military administrative dispositions. Plan and conduct individual and group treatment interventions. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Provide counseling regarding performance, retention and career planning on a regularly scheduled basis.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

Basic Requirements for Supervisory Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below: Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: one year of specialized experience which includes conducting psychological assessments, providing individual or group psychotherapy, and developing treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
