This position is located with the BLM Fire & Aviation Directorate, Division of Fire Planning and Fuels Management, located at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), in Boise, Idaho. Duties

Serves as the acting division chief when the Division Chief for Fire Planning and Fuels Management is unavailable. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Plans, organizes, and oversees efforts and projects that are aimed at achieving and improving the quality, effectiveness, and timeliness of program accomplishment. Efforts and projects are related to fire planning, fuels management, fire data management, fire science, fire ecology, community assistance, fire prevention and trespass, and other fire management topics. Consults with key managers and stakeholders to ensure that all implications are identified, weighed, and considered in study and discussion of effective and efficient resource use and distribution. Plays a key role in the development and implementation of program policies, plans, guidelines, proposals, processes, and recommendations on issues which cross functional lines. Program focus areas are related to fire management. Implements performance metrics for fuels, fire planning and related fire management programs to manage and monitor the operational efficiencies of the organization.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the minimum qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. For GS-14: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of public lands, supervising and/or leading professional work related to natural resource management principles which involve administering resources in a multi-use environment, such as watershed, realty functions, minerals, recreation, wildlife habitat, cultural resources, protection (including fire control), and livestock grazing. There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-12 and above grade levels. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Time In Grade Requirement: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
