About the Position: As a Biologist, Fish & wildlife Administrator, Fishery Biologist or Wildlife Biologist for the US Army Corps of Engineers' South Atlantic Division, located in Atlanta, GA this position works with the Corps five district location offices of the Corps Resource Management Division, located in Wilmington, NC; Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; Jacksonville, FL; and Mobile, AL.

Duties

Provides technical and scientific information and/or interpretation on federal policy governing Endangered Species Act and Essential Fish Habitat. Provides expert advice to the Command regarding Endangered Species and Essential Fish Habitat issues. Provides expert evaluation of site assessments, investigations, and documents prepared by both Corps and non-Corps Personnel regarding Endangered Species Act and Essential Fish Habitat projects or policy issues. Serves as a lead instructor for Corps personnel regarding Endangered Species Act issues. Develops courses and provides training on Endangered Species Act issues for local district and other Corps districts. Serves as Regional liaison with technical counterparts at the other federal agencies and other scientific/resource management entities including but not limited to, National Marine Fisheries Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Prepares information papers on broad Division level topics related to critical complex Endangered Species Act policy issues. Prepares and oversees development, implementation, and management of regional biological opinions.

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Basic Requirement for Fish & Wildlife Administrator 0480 Series: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Biological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Fish & Wildlife Administration, Fishery Biology, Wildlife Biology. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, or at least 30 semester hours in courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR C. Experience: Four years of experience that demonstrated that the applicant acquired knowledge and understanding of one or more of the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or related disciplines equivalent to that which would have been acquired through completion of a 4-year course of study as described in A above. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Basic Requirement for Fishery Biologist 0482 Series: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Basic Requirement for Wildlife Biologist 0486 Series: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: : Experience with development, support, and implementation of complex and/or highly controversial Endangered Species Act and Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act consultations, processes, and programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
