This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Plant Genetics Research Unit in Columbia, MO.
In this position, you will be responsible for serving as part of a research team conducting insect research in a laboratory, greenhouse, and field environment.
Duties
Adapt, modify, or develop new techniques and/or procedures to satisfy the needs of the insect research project.
Participate in one or more phases of the insect research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment.
Maintain records and locate and compile data and other information from various sources.
Maintain, calibrate, and modify complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Tabulate, statistically analyze, and summarize data using personal computers and software packages.
Perform the full range of techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
Enter and organize scientific data in computer software such as Excel.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting, preparing, or evaluating insect samples; analyzing experimental data; and maintaining or calibrating specialized equipment.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related courses may include entomology and biological science.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
GS-08
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in a research project related to insects; preparing reports based on research data related to insects; and performing routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized field equipment.

Education: Two full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related courses may include entomology and biological science.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
