The incumbent is the Chief Technologist in the Imaging Service at the Miami VA Healthcare System. He /She has full responsibility for technical aspects and patient care functions within the General Radiography, CT, MRI, and Mammography sections. The incumbent has direct supervisory responsibility over the lead technologists in these sections. Incumbent has extensive knowledge of the functions of PACS. The Radiologic Technology program includes the full variety of specialties.
Duties
The incumbent is responsible for the performance of the individuals within the Imaging Service. He or she recommends promotions , reassignments or other status changes of assigned personnel. Resolves informal complaints of employees.
The incumbent provides direction to personnel in managing their respective sections and guidance in handling unique problems. Assigns employees to positions and/or work assignments based on consideration of several factors including the difficulty and type of work, availability, capability and experience.
Ensures the monitoring of all activities within the radiology sections and takes appropriate action as required in order to insure their efficient and effective operation. ls responsible for the administration of policies and developing/ implementing these policies in accordance with the needs of the service.
Advises employees of performance requirements and keeps them informed of their progress in meeting these requirements. Holds corrective inte1views with employees regarding inadequate performance or conduct.
Participates in the management of Human Resources for the department including selection, promotion, performance appraisal, and award and promotion systems.
Provides written support and documentation for recommendations to Service Chief (Approving Officials) for final approval.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
a. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.)
b. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)
c. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
e. Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
f. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d).
Minimum Grade Qualification GS-12
Do you have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) directly related to the position that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services for this specialty area? This includes :this assignment is restricted to employees serving as a full assistant chief to a GS-12 chief radiologic technologist. Individuals in this assignment share full responsibility for managing the radiologic technology section.
In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (This must be demonstrated in your resume)
i. Knowledge of overall radiology department operations, and the ability to judge effectiveness of the operation.
ii. *Ability to monitor and evaluate subordinate supervisor's performance.
iii. *Ability to formulate plans, delegate authority, and follow-up on delegated tasks.
iv. Knowledge of new and recent developments in the field.
