The Pathways Internship Program allows students to join VA in career positions that emphasize long-term training and development. This position will provide administrative and technical analysis support work in a trainee capacity in health care administration. Assignments will increase in complexity as the trainee develops the needed skill set to handle more complex assignments.

Duties

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Duties include, but not limited to: Incumbent will perform a variety of clerical, administrative and technical duties/responsibilities in support of management with the intent of accomplishing the administrative requirements of the organization to which assigned. Incumbent participates in limited studies and evaluations to improve administrative processes and workflows, identifying and recommending ways of eliminating, combining, simplifying, or improving procedures or processes. Effectively enhances the ability of the office to support overall mission requirements through developing methods for automating administrative data collection requirements and reports considering the interrelationships of reports and multiple uses of data. Review health care administrative program guidance, policies, and procedures from higher authority to determine effect on assigned mission. Formulates and recommends changes in administrative policies/procedures with a view toward obtaining maximum effectiveness in the coordination and control of recurring reports. Compiles data into reports, charts, and graphs for supervisor for meetings or in response to correspondence. Use graphics software to provide charts, and graphs for viewgraphs or paper presentations for briefings. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0730-1600

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/28/2023. Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Schedule and review work activities performed in an office, including reporting and record keeping. Review and direct incoming documentation/inquiries and take personal action when applicable or direct to appropriate staff as needed. Enter all reports and requests within an expedient time frame. Maintain office compliance regarding regulations, policies, and guidelines as established and applicable records. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. (Transcripts required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsManages and Organizes Information Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
