Duties
This position offers a variety of duty locations within the Klamath Network of Parks:
Redwood National and State, Crescent City, California
Lassen Volcanic National Park, Mineral, California
Redwood National and State, Orick, California
Lava Beds National Monument, Tulelake, California
Whiskeytown National Rec Area, Redding, California
Oregon Caves, Cave Junction, Oregon
Salary information is the same for all locations: annual salary range is - $82,830 - $107,680.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
1)Serves as the subject matter expert and principal advisor responsible for planning, developing, directing and coordinating a safety and occupational health program for the Klamath Network of Parks that includes: Lassen Volcanic National Park, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Tule Lake National Monument, Redwoods State and National Park and Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve.
2) Evaluates, compiles and analyzes behavioral, work environment, and accident statistical data, and prepares charts, tables and reports to communicate this information to management, staff, and others.
3) Coordinates and oversees the development of safety education and training material and conducts safety training programs for managers, supervisors, staff, volunteers and park concessionaires.
4) Coordinates and/or conducts annual inspections and ensures that programs are current and compatible with Occupational Safety and Health Program and public Risk Management Program, park or region, agency and Department of the Interior safety plans, and policies.
5) Provides guidance to and/or leads teams in investigating lost time incidents to help identify chair of events, root causes, corrective actions, recommendations for improvement and follow-up to ensure corrective action has been taken.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) Managing elements of a safety or occupational health program; 2) Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management; 3) Applying safety and occupational health laws regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; 4) Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; 5) Developing and implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses; 6) Analyzing and evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards; 7) Designing and modifying workplaces, processes, products or other systems to control or eliminate hazards; 8) Inspecting and surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards; 9) Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects; 10) Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
