About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation.
Duties
Serve as the Chief of the Safety and Occupational Health Office.
Represent the command on all aspects of the total safety and occupational health and IH program, ergonomics and hazardous communication, radiological safety and fire prevention program.
Administer the hazardous communication standard program and the radiation safety program.
Initiate surveys and appraisals of conditions affecting the health and efficiency of government and contractor personnel, such as fumes, gases, dust, lighting, ventilation temperature, etc.
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets priorities, and establishes schedules for work completion.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is position requires a Tier 3 background investigation.
- A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This is a CP-12 position. Incumbent must possess or complete CP-12 Level I Professional Certification program within 24 months of appointment.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR):
Degree: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Experience: Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
-Managing safety or occupational health program elements.
-Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.
-Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
-Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Managing a safety and occupational health program which requires the planning, organizing, and evaluation of a program with diverse but recognized hazards in areas such as production, construction and engineering environments; 2) Achieving compliance with regulatory provisions and effectively communicating multiple safety and occupational health practices and procedures to staff and line personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
