VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (CPS) Supervisor is responsible for coordination, oversight and supervision of all PACT CPS operating under a scope of practice in Cheyenne VA Health Care System. Makes hiring selections, assigns personnel, and serves as a mentor to help clinical staff develop their full potential. Develops and maintains a system of review to ensure that all pharmacy practitioners operate at the top of their licensure to provide patient care, as directed by their scope. Functions as a working PACT Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for a portion of their time, to maintain their skills and better understand processes and challenges of a rural PACT CPS. The position may involve some travel to CBOCs. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Functions as a working PACT CPS dependent on staffing and workload; expected to meet all metrics related to access and productivity. Develops and expands clinical pharmacy services in the Ambulatory Care setting, including clinical staff participation in PACT team huddles and meetings, population management, medication reconciliation, patient medication counseling, and other related activities. Empowers PACT CPS staff to be involved in the provision of clinical services through training and mentoring. Maintains a close liaison with the medical staff to develop, implement, and maintain effective processes to promote the safe, economical, and rational use of drugs as directed by the national formulary. Effectively serves as the direct front line supervisor for all PACT CPS staff and ancillary clinical staff. Completes competency training and professional practice evaluation (PPE) of all PACT CPS staff supervised. Assists with interviewing of employee candidates, recommends appointments, and evaluates employee performance. Initiates action based on employee's performance as necessary, including documentation and recommendation for awards, counseling, and disciplinary actions. Evaluates dashboards, almanacs, and other workload programs and provides feedback to ensure consistency among PACT CPS staff regarding productivity and effectiveness. Must possess the ability to efficiently and appropriately handle challenging administrative issues relating to both pharmacy practice and human resource/staffing issues. Serves as a member of various clinical, professional, and administrative committees. This may include: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, VISN and Facility Clinical Pharmacy Practice Councils, MUE Subcommittee, and in the absence of the Associate Chief, Clinical Services, attends additional meetings. Assumes responsibilities of the Associate Chief, Clinical Services in his/her absence. Conducts training to expand capabilities of CPS staff to improve their effectiveness in monitoring drug therapy and providing other clinical services. Provides educational in-services to pharmacy staff to keep them apprised of new drug developments. Assists and coordinates resident and student experiences with CPS staff in various practice areas. Reviews and identifies training needs of CPS staff on a yearly basis and submits educational needs to the appropriate approving official. Conducts the training of clinical staff in pertinent aspects of CPRS documentation and appropriate encountering, including appropriate medication order entry, completion of consults and formulary issues. Education Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure. Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. NOTE: Individuals who have or have had multiple licenses and had any such license revoked for professional misconduct, professional incompetence or substandard care, or who surrendered such license after receiving written notice of potential termination of such license by the State for professional misconduct, professional incompetence, or substandard care, are not eligible for appointment to the position unless such revoked or surrendered license is fully restored (38 U.S.C. § 7402(f)). Effective November 30, 1999, this is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to licensed pharmacists on VA rolls as of that date, provided they maintain continuous appointment and are not disqualified for employment by any subsequent revocations or voluntary surrenders of State license, registration or certification. English Language Proficiency. Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d) Grade Determinations:GS-13 Pharmacy Supervisor. Experience. In addition to the GS-13 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower GS-12 grade level. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. LICENSED PHARMACIST QUALIFICATION STANDARD The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-13. Physical Requirements: Physical movements involve completion of basic pharmacy functions which include but are not limited to: packaging mail, restocking shelves, maintenance of office supplies and interactions with patients and staff. Certain tasks are repetitive in nature and require multiple steps performed in succession for success. The incumbent should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without significant difficulty. Incumbent must be able to stand or sit in one place for considerable time during completion of tasks Preferred Experience: Prior VA Clinical experience/training, Healthcare Professional Trainee (HPT) previously completed or currently completing a VA Pharmacy Residency Program, or Clinical Pharmacy experience in: Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT)
