Duties
Responsible for checking library materials in and out and verifies that customers are authorized to use the facility. Registers new customers, issues library cards, and files applications per policy. Explains library rules, regulations, circulation procedures, and policies to library customers. Accepts payments for lost or damaged materials. Takes requests for reserves and inter/intra library loans, and periodically checks to see that requests are filled. Keeps current record of overdue materials. Accurately compiles and records statistics on library usage such as book circulation, attendance, computer searches, reference questions, etc. Assists customers in locating and utilizing library departments, catalogs, directories, indexes, files, and standard reference materials.

Qualifications
BACHELOR¿S DEGREE from an accredited college or university in a field appropriate to work of the position, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR three years of practical experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. One year supervisory experience is preferred, or demonstrated increasing responsibilities in a library setting. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of procedures related to all aspects of major library functions. Knowledge of integrated library software as well as a familiarity with reference materials and online searching techniques. Ability to operate basic library equipment, such as computers, copy machines, and audiovisual equipment. Exemplary oral and written communication skills including a strong grasp of grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation necessary to prepare routine correspondence and to file and locate materials accurately. Must have the ability to handle and safeguard money and calculate statistics.
