Duties
Directs all phases of the dispatch coordination program and is responsible for planning, program direction, coordination and evaluation.
Analyzes current dispatch plans and guides and initiates changes based on each bureau’s policy; makes recommendations to meet changing conditions within the limits of current or anticipated funding.
Coordinates and initiates all dispatch coordination actions based on firefighter and public safety, cost effectiveness, and values to be protected.
Coordinates with cooperating agencies on multi-jurisdictional wildland fires for resource needs, values at risk, plan of action and intelligence gathering.
Monitors fire season severity predictions, fire behavior reports, and fire activity levels and takes appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient and effective dispatch operations.
Provides leadership, coordination, and direction in the application of standards, methods, and guidelines for all dispatch coordination program elements.

- Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.

- An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
- Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- This position requires all hires complete the S-491 “Intermediate National Fire Danger Rating System” course within 12 months of being placed into the position. Failure to complete this training may result in removal.

Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher (EDSD)
At the GS-11 Level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 in the federal service. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: experience in supervising and/or managing a complex dispatch operation. Coordinating transportation and determining the nature of the resources needed such as personnel, equipment and services; preparing cost and budgetary data; experience working with flight justification; payment documents and flight plans for contact and on call personnel; implementing and maintaining mobilization plans, emergency and disaster plans; and dispatch policies and procedures; OR completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctors degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; OR an equivalent combination of the education and specialized experience described above.
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
This is a SECONDARY/Administrative fire position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). While secondary positions are not subject to the maximum entry age (MEA) policy, the selectee must have prior service in a primary position and meet the transfer requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to be eligible for special retirement coverage. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure this office has enough information to determine your retirement status to ensure you do not lose benefits(normally through submission of your SF-50). YOU MUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN A PRIMARY POSITION.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breads and mealtimes. Must be able to cope with the pressure of meeting timeframes and changing priorities. Mental concentration and accuracy are required.
Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting. During peak activity, increased radio traffic, numerous ringing phones, and conversations result in high noise levels, which require a high level of concentration to perform duties.
Education
This position falls under the Logistics Management Series, 0346 Administrative and Management Positions. There are no Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for this series.
This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify - You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
