Duties
Performs simple assignments involving closely related steps, processes, or methods.
Performs basic fact-finding work which supports broader assignments of higher graded
outdoor recreation planners
Assists with the administration and compliance of Special Recreation Permits
Participates in monitoring visitor use.
Assists in planning and coordinating the work of maintenance crews which includes trash pickup, facility improvement, maintenance and repair, signing efforts, and scheduled project work.
Performs other related duties and assignments.
Requirements

- The entire period served as a Career/Indefinite Intern counts as the appointee's trial period. Prior Federal civilian service is credited toward the completion of the required trial period in the same manner as prescribed in 5 CFR 315.802.
- Currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate) in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, on a full- or half-time basis.
- Must be able to physically report to the duty location that you are selected for.
- Housing will not be provided.
- Students that have graduated and are not currently enrolled are not eligible for this position.
- The BLM will require the selected applicant to complete a Participant Agreement in which the selectee must provide an anticipated date for completing all degree program requirements.
- Participant Agreements must also show continual progression toward meeting the stated anticipated date.
Qualifications

To be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program, an applicant must:
Be at least 16 years of age. AND
A student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the school (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); AND
Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved homeschool; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. AND
Students currently enrolled must be in good academic standing maintaining a 2.5 grade point average on a cumulative basis. AND
You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.
To qualify for the GS-02: You may qualify based on completion of 1 full academic year (30 semester hours) of post-high school study. The agency may noncompetitively convert a Career/Indefinite Intern who is a U. S. citizen to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service, as long as the Intern meets all agency program requirements and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for the target occupational series at the time of completing all education requirements.
CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY: Interns may be converted, without a break in service, to a term, career or career conditional appointment upon completion of program requirements.
To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
Be a US Citizen
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
Complete their degree or certificate requirements
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement
Perform their job successfully
CAUTION FOR STUDENTS IN THEIR FINAL YEAR: Students that are graduating and are not subsequently enrolled in another program might not meet the work-hour requirements prior to graduation and will be at risk for not being able to convert to a career or career-conditional appointment.
Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. At the graduate level, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.
This position has eligibility to be converted to a term or perm appointment in the competitive service. Interns must meet the qualification requirements for the position to which converted. Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance. In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement. Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work. This position has eligibility to be converted to a term or perm appointment in the competitive service. Interns must meet the qualification requirements for the position to which converted. If converted to a permanent or term appointment, the anticipated target position will be a full performance level up to a GS-11, the target position and full performance level may change based on the need of the organization at that time. Interns must meet the qualification requirements for the position to which converted. Extensions: This appointment may be extended without further competition based on the need of the organization for the work to continue and provided the individual continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
Education
The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.
