Duties

This position works in the Division of Facility Management at Rocky Mountain National Park as a work crew Leader assigned responsibility for the repair and stabilization of historic/non-historic stone and mortar structures. This position is required to work with minimal direct supervision in the operation of a variety of vehicles up to 54,000 GVWR capacities in performing maintenance support activities which will include hauling supplies, materials, equipment and personnel to job sites and other locations. This position also leads and assists with snow removal operations. As a condition of employment, employee must be able to obtain/maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement within 12 months of starting work. Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly climbing in and out of different machines, pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation, and lifting such items as opening and closing tail gates on dump trucks. Work is strenuous because of the large equipment operated, the frequent adjustments made, and the adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Operation of large and complicated equipment in difficult circumstances increases exposure and risk of injury. Works both inside and outside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather. Ice, road oils, and other items such as loose gravel and rocks create hazardous conditions. The operator is subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents, and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside, must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes while welding and/or other fumes caused by equipment or vehicles. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to lead and performcommon Masonry Worker Leader duties. Work with employees in the repair and stabilization of historic/non-historic stone and mortar structures. Possess knowledge of stone structure construction and maintenance techniques and can recognize existing and future maintenance problems. Lead other worker(s) in (1) mixing soils, water, and amendments for mortars as prescribed, (2) removing damaged portions of walls and/or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair of damage and stabilization of the original fabric, (3) implementing prescribed treatments (capping, veneering, repainting, new laying, etc.). Operate of a variety of equipment which includes but is not limited to the following: snow removal heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, and dump truck to plow and remove snow from park roadways and visitor use areas throughout the year. Operate dump trucks up to 54,000 GVWR, front loaders, excavators, bobcats, and power wheelbarrows to haul materials, supplies, dirt, road base, rock, brush, sand, gravel, equipment, and tools, etc. I work under normal supervision; my supervisor observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. (SCREEN OUT) Selective Factor: Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement. If not currently in possession of CDL, applicant must obtain within 12 months of entry on duty. (SCREEN OUT) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading). Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Knowledge of Materials. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic). Measurement and Layout. Dexterity and Safety.
