Duties
Performs seasonal gardening tasks such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, deadheading, staking, dividing plants, and watering.
Prepares soil-mixing materials such as sand, humus, topsoil, and fertilizer in accordance with instructions. As instructed, prunes woody vegetation including shrubs, vines, and ornamental and fruit trees. Inspects for obvious plant diseases (molds, brown spots, rusts blight, and mildew), plant insects, and unusual or poor plant growth; reports conditions to supervisors.
May apply chemicals to plants according to directions and under supervisory guidance and instruction.
Mows, edges and waters lawns to maintain appearance. Lays sod, sows seed, places mulch to maintain or restore lawn appearances
Pulls and/or treats non-native plant species.
Removes rocks, leaves, limbs, and trash from grounds and garden areas.
Sweeps and rakes walks and parking areas; picks up litter/debris.
Operates, riding mowers and electric carts and various hand tools.
Weekend work may be required as part of regular schedule or during special events.
AREA INFORMATION: Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) is a 25-acre site located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. The only commercial access to South Bass Island is by ferry or plane from April to November. Annually, approximately 150,000 visitors have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top of the 352-foot Monument. On the park grounds there is visitor center, ranger station, administrative office, maintenance facility, and nine park housing units. Services in Put-In-Bay include a bank, churches, EMS services, grocery store, gas station, K-12 school, library, police, restaurants, and shops. Other services are located on the mainland in Port Clinton and nearby Sandusky. Park housing may be available.
Additional Information: If you choose to live on the mainland your commute and employment time may exceed 11 hours/day plus driving time to your residence. Ferry Passes on the Miller Boat Line will be approximate $480/year.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May - November, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 7, 2023.
