About the Position: Position may be filled as a Temporary Promotion or Detail not to exceed 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary Promotions or Details may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Position may be filled as a Temporary Appointment not to exceed 1 year, if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary Appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
Duties
Perform maintenance and repair on heavy duty mobile equipment vehicles such as road graders, bulldozers, power shovels, heavy duty compressors, large generators, and a variety of combustion powered automotive vehicles and material handling equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
Perform operational inspection and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation NACI T1.
- Requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
- Duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs
- Position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Must obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) License.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIRER without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common duties associated with the removal, adjustment, and replacement of defective or worn parts and components. Remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install parts and components of heavy mobile equipment for repair. Perform preventive maintenance checks and services. Conduct basic operational inspections to ensure the vehicles, machinery, and equipment are properly serviced. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Worker makes repairs in cramped and awkward positions where parts worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed inside where it is drafty and noisy and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Worker must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. There are times when work is performed on hard, usually damp surfaces. Occasionally called upon to perform repairs outside, sometimes in bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids may cause burns or irritate the skin. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains.
