Duties

Uses basic hand tools and simple power equipment such as handsaws, hatchets, clippers, hand lawnmowers to maintain buildings and grounds. Operates power equipment that includes visual check of the equipment, lubrication, cleaning/replacing air filters and refueling. Loads and unloads materials by hand or with hand trucks up to 50 pounds regularly. Mows lawns and performs other grounds maintenance including trimming and weed eating. Perform interior and exterior custodial maintenance on buildings. Maintain restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Empty trash and recycle containers. Perform and complete continuing work assignments following only general instructions. Observe all safety requirements when using custodial, hand tools, and power tools, including personal protective equipment (ear protective devices, safety glasses, gloves). Safely load and unload supplies and other diverse materials and objects. Operates motor vehicle. Physical Demands: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort, occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (about 33 kilograms); frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects up to 40 lbs. (18 kilograms), and frequently pushing heavy objects such as furniture on dollies and various artwork, artifacts, etc. Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all types of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in the office buildings or in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, draft, noise, dust and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, protectors, safety glasses and steel toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. Area Information NO GOVERNMENT HOUSING IS AVAILABLE George Rogers Clark NHP is located along the scenic Wabash River, on the southern edge of Vincennes (population 18,000) in southwest Indiana. Public and private schools for grades K - 12 are available in Vincennes as well as districts in outlying, rural areas. Vincennes is home to Vincennes University offering technical training and associate's and bachelor's degrees. A regional hospital and medical clinics are located in Vincennes. The Evansville metropolitan area with greater services is 55 miles south of Vincennes and Terre Haute is approximately 50 miles to the north. Government housing is not available. Along with the Revolutionary War battle that occurred at Fort Sackville, Vincennes is a centerpiece of historical events from Indiana's territorial period through the 20th century. The park collaborates with a handful of local museums for programs and public outreach.
