The primary purpose of the position is to perform tasks that require significant manual skill, prior work experience or training, and very heavy physical effort.

Duties

Inspects and decontaminates boats to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species in the park. Operates a single-function decontamination system with high temperature burners and filtration systems that are independently controlled through various mechanical devices. Conducts routine equipment checks of decontamination system to ensure proper and safe functioning of system. Logs status of equipment and reports abnormal operation to responsible parties. Performs minor maintenance on the decontamination system as directed. This work requires knowledge of several steps, phases, or detailed procedures to accomplish the assignment. Informs visitors about park rules relating to aquatic invasive species. Uses tact and diplomacy to handle contentious situations. As assigned, performs tasks and duties supporting the mission of the park. These may include, but are not limited to, loading and unloading supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc., removing and setting signs, picking up litter, cleaning fire pits, and operating other types of equipment (e.g., lawn edging equipment, trimmers) and hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes) to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails. This is an open continuous vacancy announcement.Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyWork Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order) SCREENOUT: Perform the most difficult and complex laborer tasks including ability to operate trucks and trailers weighing up to one ton; properly loading and unloading various supplies and equipment; to perform work providing laboring assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, and trails; operate power equipment such as lawnmowers, snow blowers, and string trimmers; and safely use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, pulaskis, rock bars, etc. Able to safely operate vehicles/equipment in all types of traffic and weather conditions. I utilize most hand and power tools associated with these tasks including light hand and power and cleaning custodial tools, lawn mowers, snow blowers, and leaf blowers. Operate a single-function decontamination system with high temperature burners and filtration systems that are independently controlled through various mechanical devices. Conduct routine equipment checks of decontamination system to ensure proper and safe functioning of system. Log status of equipment and report abnormal operation to responsible parties. Perform minor maintenance on the decontamination system as directed. Assigned work orally, through work orders, or with written specifications. Work was checked to see that it met compliance with work and safety standards and policies.
