Duties
Positions will be filled at either the WG-5 or the WG-7 level, depending upon selectee's qualifications and park funding availability. All positions may not be filled or they may be filled at different times depending on budget, hiring needs, and requirements.
WG-5 Major Duties: Perform routine maintenance of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work and on special project work. Performs the following: carpentry repairs using power and hand tools, painting using brushes and rollers, minor plumbing such as tightening and replacing fittings and washers, using a plunger as necessary. Mows grass and maintains trees and shrubs. Performs routine maintenance around campground sites and trails, collects trash, cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms and other facilities. Operates light truck to pick up supplies or to transport materials to and from work sites.
WG-7 Major Duties: Including the above duties and completing projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry. Assignments cover a wide range of tasks related to the construction and maintenance of buildings and utilities. Performs construction projects utilizing initiative, working alone, or with assistance. On-site determination of methods to accomplish tasks assigned will be the individual's responsibility. Instructions will be of a general nature at times and will be either verbal or written. Many tasks call for innovation and initiative. You may be required to lead lower graded employees while accomplishing these projects.
Area Information: Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500) and Grand Marais. The duty stations for these positions are at Munising and Grand Marais. Government housing may be available for rent. Amenities in Munising include basic shopping, medical facilities, and K-12 schools. Grand Marais has a population of less than 500 people and shopping is limited. K-12 schools are available in Grand Marais. Basic shopping and medical facilities for those at Grand Marais are available 60 miles away in Munising. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. The winter season may extend from October to May and is often characterized by cold temperatures and seasonal snowfall in excess of 140 inches. The area is rich in outdoor sporting activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, biking, camping, and skiing.

You must meet the 2 point level on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements listed.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
