You will serve as a Painter in the Production Department of PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will be responsible for accomplishing the preparation of interior and exterior wood, metal and plastic surfaces of equipment, building, ships, submarines and small craft.
You will be filling cracks, scaling, washing and imperfections with knifing and troweling compounds and applying conditioning, sealing, decorative, protective and functional paints and coatings.
You will be mixing paints, putties, fillers and coatings using base and curing properties.
You will be mixing stains, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, epoxies, polyurethanes, coal tars and other surface materials and applying them using proper equipment and techniques.
You will be preparing surfaces by hand and mechanical means such as scaling, sanding, scraping, chemical removing, and washing of wood, metal, and plastic surfaces.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You must be willing and able to work onboard ships.
- You must be willing and able to work in small and/or confined spaces.
- You must be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. You must be able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
- You must be willing and able to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays).
- You will be required to work a Shift Work schedule. A Shift Work schedule describes work performed with varying and/or rotating shifts.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
