The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate supervisors and workers in accomplishing trades and labor work of total aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, repair modification, jacking, and total engine run of aircraft to an in-commission status (to include preflight) in an integrated maintenance environment

  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain an airfield driving certificate of competency
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate Security Clearance
  • The employee may be required to work beyond the normal work schedule to include overtime, shift work, weekends, and holidays in order to accomplish mission requirements.
  • The employee may be required to travel via military and commercial aircraft and motor vehicles in order to accomplish temporary duty assignments.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
  • Maintenance Production (Production Superintendent, Lead Production Superintendent, Mx Superintendent, etc) experience, is highly desirable
  • The employee may be detailed to other areas and/or duties, as the mission requires.
  • This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
  • Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
  • The duties of this position meets all requirements as a cat 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively.
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IA W: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. 4. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. 5. Ability to manage overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions and implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures through one or more levels of subordinate supervisors. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
