The Health Technician is located in the Outpatient Department at the Uintah-Ouray Service Unit, in Fort Duchesne, UT. Under the supervision of a licensed or registered nurse, performs patient care, technical and clerical services in the outpatient setting. The incumbent must be able to document and retrieve patient and work related data electronically via several standardized computer programs and written hard copies. May be required to rotate to the Diabetes Clinic at the Wellness Center.
Duties

Assist medical provider in clinic, obtaining vital signs and other body measurements, including chief complaint and brief patient history.
Assist with clinical procedures, facilitating the flow of patients through the clinic.
Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as preoperative preparation of the skin, 2- lead EKG, collecting specimens, applying bandages and dressings as directed.
Perform routine waived laboratory tests in the clinic. May collect serum via venipuncture or assist patient to collect urine.
Responsible for preparation, proper use and care of equipment/supplies and cleanliness of clinic; orders and sorts supplies/linen as needed.
Assist patients to the exam room. May transport and/or accompany patients via wheelchair within the clinic campus.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above):Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0640-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: recording patients' medical history, vitals; preparing treatment rooms; interviewing patients to obtain medical information.
OR
A completion of a full four (4) year course of study of leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. (Note: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. Determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level. Then determine education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-5. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for GS-5.)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
