About the Position: The position is located at Navy Hospital Pensacola Department of Radiology. Serve as the Radiation Safety and Health Officer (RSHO) for Naval Hospital Pensacola. The work is performed in a typical office and laboratory setting. Working hours will be 7:30am - 4:00pm.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing DHA for DIB-MRTFB.
Duties
Assigned as the Command's Radiation Safety and Health Officer, implementing and maintaining the Command's radiation safety/protection program.
Provides oversight of all activities involving radioactive material, radiation producing devices, and radiation health at the command.
Administers the Command's Naval Radioactive Materials Permit (NRMP).
Responsible for reviews for awards, reassignments, promotions and recommend appointments.
Assess and investigate unusual radiological control problems.
Provide administrative and technical supervision of multiple military and physical Science technicians in the surveying and inspection of radioactive program requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position may be designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position may require the ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Is certified by a specialty board recognized by the Commission or an Agreement State and who Has training in the radiation safety, regulatory issues, and emergency procedures for the types of use for which a licensee seeks approval.

Basic Requirement for Health Physicist:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education.
OR
Certification: Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent which includes planning, implementing, and operating a radiological safety program in a medical treatment facility; developing procedures for handling, using, storing, and disposing of radioactive materials; inspecting, investigating, and monitoring radiological operations for compliance; and analyzing and interpreting policies and regulations to identify program requirements and procedures.

Education
