In cities across the country, you would secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and/or public transit systems, thus protecting America's transportation infrastructure and ensuring freedom of movement for people and commerce.

Duties

This Security Assistant position is located Office of Intelligence, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to: Adheres to security procedures and protocols while determining passenger vetting status, conducting watchlist checks, and verifying passenger identity. Uses sound judgment and critical thinking in time sensitive situations while interpreting oral input from customers and written input from databases. Resolves customer-service and security inquiries per established procedures or escalates to Supervisor when necessary. Able to preview information, conduct research, and provide solutions in a time-constrained environment. Utilize government and commercial databases to verify the vetting status of traveling passengers and gate pass holders, conducting watchlist checks, and establishing identity of passengers who do not present acceptable identification. Creates daily reports and log entries in call tracking database to indicate the nature of the call, specific research results, and the disposition of the call. Supports program analysis functions and processes, i.e., applies analytical techniques to perform a combination of routine and multiple and varying assignments assisting managers and other employees in day-to-day operations. Provides a variety of support functions in assisting airline operators and secure flight analysts regarding vetting issues for the traveling public. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support special initiatives, business processes, and procedures related to passenger resolution, watchlist or database checks, and identity verification.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-F Pay Band (equivalent to GS-9), you must meet one of the qualification requirements (A, B, OR C) outlined below: you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-E (equivalent to GS-7), Pay Band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such specialized experience is defined as: Education: 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree OR Experience: You must have three (3) years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4 in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates the ability to: Experience interpreting, analyzing, and applying policies and procedures to draw conclusions concerning the vetting of individuals; Experience resolving customer service inquiries and briefing supervisors: Experience tracking applications (such as driver's license applications, passport applications) and preparing statistical reports; and Experience utilizing computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, to prepare presentations, track information, and generate reports. OR Combining of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade level, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application. Official transcripts may be required at a later date. NOTE: The F Band performs the duties and responsibilities similar to the G Band, but under a closer degree of supervisory controls. ??????? Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
